Cannon Beach and Seaside, Oregon Coast, USA (9/3-4/2009) - The Oregon coast is beautiful with large white sandy beaches and charming seaside villages.

For the benefit of those from California, Cannon Beach is the Carmel of northern Oregon and one of its most beautiful seaside villages. It is a great place for exploring art galleries and unique shops. Cannon Beach has miles of sandy beaches and is also the site of Haystack Rock, the most photographed site on the Oregon coast.

In addition to walking Hamlet Street (the main street of Cannon Beach), a highlight of ours was a hike through the beautiful Ecola State Park complete with old growth forest trails and sandy Indian Beach (see photos).

The town of Seaside is famous for its beautiful beach, good clam chowder, and being the place where the famous Lewis and Clark expedition landed on the west coast after their pioneering trip across the frontier. In Seaside, Wayne found a bumper car ride he just had to do. The Big Kid had some old fashion fun (see photo). 

Finishing up a wonderful visit, we saw a campy community play at Cannon Beach’s Coaster Theater Playhouse.
