Lake Como (Bellagio & Menaggio, Italy - Living around the Lake (7/6-14/09) - We LOVED the Lake District of Northern Italy. Here is an overview:

We decided to stay 8 days (2 days in Como, 2 in Bellagio, and 4 in Menaggio - each time staying in the old town). We wandered Lake Como's gardens and villas and had dinner outside in the plazas every night. The Italian food here is wonderful (see photo).

We started off in Como and took a cable car to the hilltop village of Brunate where we had dinner overlooking Como and Lake Como at the historic Ristorante Bellavista (see photo). Then we stayed 2 days in famous village of Bellagio soaking up this wonderful place. We finished with 4 days based in Menaggio that served as a hub to visit by ferries all the villages and famous villas in the middle Lake Como area.

Travel tip... Staying in beautiful Menaggio across the lake from Bellagio is a good idea. You can reach all the wonderful places on the same ferry that services Bellagio and we found the prices and service better.
