Queenstown, New Zealand (11/21-23/2009) - We love this FUN beautiful place!

Adrenalin seeking young-thinking people from all around the world converge on the Queentown mountain ski/summer resort for adventure - bunging jumping, hang gliding, skydiving, jet boating, river rafting, luge, biking, trekking, rock climbing, hot-air ballooning, and more including good skiing during the winter.

Kiwis (New Zealanders) are proud of being the birthplace of the first commercial bunging jumping at Kawarau Suspension Bridge (see photo) which affords a 143-foot drop.

Queenstown also has very nice restaurants, cafes, clubs, and shopping, golfing, boating, fishing, and even admirable wine tasting

Queenstown’s setting is stunning built around Lake Wakatipu at the foot of the Remarkables mountain range (see areal photo). The surrounding area is picture perfect beautiful - much of the movie The Lords of the Rings was filmed in this area.

We did the Shotover jet boat (see photo) where you blast full speed through the beautiful narrow rocky Shotover Canyon in as little as 4 inches of water doing 360 degree turns at full speed – great fun! With what adrenalin we had left, we rode the Skyline Gondola to the top of Bob’s Peak and took luge rides down the hill (see photo).

A visit from Queenstown to the famous World Heritage Site, Milford Sound, is a must - see more on Milford Sound in our separate blog post.

We finished our visit to Queenstown with a visit to several local wineries (Chard Farm Vineyard and Gibbston Valley Winery – nice wines!) and to the once thriving gold mining town of Arrowtown. Many of Arrowtown's original buildings remain since when gold was discovered in 1867.
